The Double
The Double: A Choreopoem & A Choreodrama is a limited run collection of two of Nina Angela Mercer’s performance works. We’re so excited to offer The Double on a sliding scale of $22, $32, $42, $52, $62, pay according to your comfort, and we’ll keep you updated on the delivery of your copy!
Itagua Meji: a road & a prayer is a choreopoem, telling a story in poetry, dance, and ritual as Aisha conspires for survival by the wits of her own sacred divinity. Itagua Meji travels a road of ancestral memory woven through a pointed critique of our right now. See here to watch a video of the performance! (18 minutes)
Gypsy & The Bully Door is a choreodrama about Sara and her community, the persistence of dreams, and the tough love it takes to hold on despite the chaos of the world, especially the chaos created by our minds. This story is a multi-media, immersive, and interactive ritual and quest set to the undeniable call of DC’s Gogo music. We are led through this epic journey by The Mayor, our funk conductor and “lead talker,” and a vibrant ensemble also known as The Pocket Roll Call, a percussive band of characters fueling and foiling Sara’s movements, no matter where she goes to escape. See here to watch a trailer of the most recent development process! (5 minutes)
Advance praise for The Double:
"The Double is a miraculous journey where spirit and body cross earth, stars, blood, and the music of a woman's remembering is a way to call herstory and memory as sanctuary." ~ Rachel Eliza Griffiths
